Assistant Fire Chief Brian O'Cain started as a volunteer firefighter with the Okeechobee City Fire Department in 2004. After graduating from Indian River State College in 2005, he became a full time Firefighter/ EMT with the Okeechobee City Fire Department. He made the transition to Columbia Fire and Rescue in the fall of 2006 where he maintained the position of Firefighter/EMT.
In 2013, he received his Associates degree in Fire Science and advanced to a Driver Engineer. Then in 2014, he was promoted to a Fire Captain where he supervised firefighting, organized shift training, and directed incident management. He has acted as Assistant Fire Chief periodically since 2015 and fully moved into the position in 2020. His certifications include:
- Advanced Emergency Medical Technician
- Firefighter
- Swift Water Rescue Technician
- Shift Training Officer
