Massey graduated from Santa Fe High School in 1995 and started his career as a firefighter with Columbia Fire and Rescue in 1998. He is a licensed Emergency Medical Responder. He held the position of Firefighter for 22 years. He was promoted to the rank of Assistant Fire Marshal in January 2020, and Fire Marshal in August 2022.
