Are You Interested in a Career in the Fire Service?
Columbia Fire & Rescue's Explorer Program is for young men and women who are between the ages of 14 - 20 years old and interested in learning more about the fire service.The primary goal of this program is to provide young adults with the opportunity to explore a potential career in Firefighting & Emergency Medical Services and challenge them to become responsible citizens. Explorers will be required to attend regular monthly meetings. During these meetings they will be trained in various fire service related topics. After training, the explorer will gain hands on experience applying what they have learned in a controlled training environment. As an explorer you will be eligible to ride along with fire companies in order to learn more about what it takes to be a career firefighter.
- Must be between the ages of 14 and 20 years of age
-Must have completed 8th grade
-Maintain a grade point average of 2.0 or above
-Be able to attend meetings and trainings on a monthly basis
-Be willing to assist with community related functions
-Complete and return required paperwork: Explorer Program Application
-Once submitted, the application will undergo a review process
-If applicant meets all requirements they will contacted and invited to attend an introductory meeting where they will be given the opportunity to speak with advisors and to discuss the rules, regulations, and responsibilities that come with being Fire Explorer
-After the initial meeting, if the applicant is still interested in pursuing this exciting opportunity, they will be invited to become a Fire Explorer!
