Investigation Division
The Criminal Investigations Division (CID) consists of criminal investigations, criminal intelligence and narcotics investigations units.

Criminal Investigations Division (CID)
The Criminal Investigations section consists of two units, the General Investigators and the Special Victims Investigators, which are supervised by a lieutenant who oversees both units.

Narcotics Division
The Narcotics Division consists of the Gang Intel Unit, K-9 Unit, and Narcotics and Vice Officers.

Patrol Division
The Patrol Division is the largest element of the Police Department and is responsible for the enforcement of hundreds of state laws and city ordinances.

Special Response Team (SRT)
The Columbia Police Department utilizes a special response team which is comprised of one Sergeant and four officers.

Community Affairs
The Community Affairs Division works closely with residents to fight crime and improve the quality of life in the community.

Traffic Unit
The Columbia Police Department's Traffic Unit primarily works to address traffic issues and traffic problem areas identified within the City of Columbia.

Support Services Division
Support Services is a division of the Columbia Police Department that includes Training, Police Vehicle Equipment Maintenance/Inventory, Police Records, Property and Evidence, School Crossing Guards, Parking Enforcement, Animal Control, S.W.A.T. Operations, Hazardous Device Unit, Honor Guard Unit, Reserve Police Officer Program, and the Police Explorer Program.

Accreditation Officer
The Columbia Police Department Accreditation Officer is a Lieutenant in the Community Affairs Division.

Evidence Clerk
The Evidence Clerk is responsible for the security and control of all evidence and property which is in the custody of the Columbia Police Department.

Explorer Post Program
The Columbia Police Department Explorer Post 786 provides educational training for young adults on the purposes, mission, and objectives of law enforcement.

Fleet Management
The Support Services Assistant is responsible for maintaining all police department vehicles and equipment maintenance requests, including the processing of these request, and the delivery of the vehicles and equipment to the repair locations.

Hazardous Device Unit
The Columbia Police Department Hazardous Device Unit is a nationally accredited unit with certified Bomb Technicians in accordance with The National Guidelines for Bomb Technicians standards.

Honor Guard
The Columbia Police Department Honor Guard is a team of officers that represent the Columbia Police Department and the City of Columbia in formal ceremonies such as honor guard, color guard, casket watches and Police Officer funerals.

Records Division
The Columbia Police Department’s Records Division shall be the central repository for original copies of all offense and incident reports, arrest reports, field reports and other official records.

School Crossing Guards
The Columbia Police Department currently employs nine School Crossing Guards that cover six school zones within the city limits of Columbia on a daily basis.

Special Weapons & Tactics (S.W.A.T.) Unit
The purpose of the Special Weapons and Tactics unit (S.W.A.T.) is to complement the Department’s total service program by providing for the deployment and use of specialized equipment and tactics when necessary to contend with unusual and high-risk situations that cannot be effectively handled by normal operations.

Training Unit
The Columbia Police Department’s Training Unit is under the Support Services Division and consists of a Captain, Lieutenant and two Sergeants.
