The City of Columbia maintains a solid credit rating, which in recent years has continued to improve. The city's most recent rating by Standard and Poor's Global Ratings was a AA+. High and improved credit ratings provide savings to the City of Columbia and Columbia taxpayers when issuing new debt and given opportunities to refinance existing debt.
The city's Finance Department is committed to maintaining the AA+ rating, the city's highest-ever, through continued use of best practices and sound financial management. An increase over the city's previous Aa2 rating by Moody's Investors Service in 2012, the city's Finance Department will continue to work with management to continually improve and identify opportunities to seek future rating increases.
