Protect the Sewers and Environment
This section provides information on how we can all become better sewer stewards to safeguard the sewer system and the environment.
Keep Sewers Fat-Free, Can the Grease!
Remember that bacon grease you poured down the drain this morning? Or last nights oily melted cheese you tossed in the sink? Sure, it seemed harmless. But fats, oils, and grease (FOG) create a huge problem for sewer pipes. In fact, FOG combined with roots in the sewer system can create massive clogs that cause more than half our sewer backups and overflows! This can result in costly repairs and environmental impacts.
What should you do? It's easy:
Can it! ~ Scrape it! ~ Trash it!
Pour leftover cooled fats, oils & grease into a sturdy container, like an empty coffee can or jar;
Scrape out fats, oils & grease residuals from pots, pans, and dishes before washing;
ALWAYS, put food scraps in the garbage. Liquid foods such as gravy, milkshakes, dressings, etc. go in the garbage too - not the drain!
