Fire Suppression

The Suppression Division operates out of five strategically located fire stations throughout the City of Columbia. The Suppression Division is made up of:

 3 Assistant Fire Chiefs (Suppression), 18 Captains, 18 Driver/Engineers, and 45 Firefighters

Personnel are assigned to three 28-member shifts, working 24 hours on, 48 hours off within 28 day tours, allowing us to operate 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

The Suppression Division of the Columbia Fire Department provides:

  • Fire Suppression
  • Emergency medical services
  • Hazardous materials response and mitigation
  • Technical rescue operations
  • Pre-incident planning
  • Participation in community events to provide residents with fire and life safety information

Assistant Fire Chief Tony Scott began his career with Columbia Fire Dept. in June of 1985.  He has held the positions of Firefighter (4 years), Driver/Engineer  (4 years), Captain (16 years), Shift Commander (4) years and his current position of Assistant Chief since 2013.  He is licensed as an Emergency Medical Responder.  Chief Scott graduated from Columbia Central High School.
                 
 Assistant Fire Chief Tim Holt began his career with Columbia Fire Dept. in March of 1993.  He has held the positions of Firefighter (4 years), Driver/Engineer (3 years), Captain (6 years), Shift Commander (8 years) and his present rank of Assistant Chief since 2013.  Chief Holt graduated from Columbia Central High School.  He received his Associates Degree in Fire Science from Columbia Southern University in 2014.
               
 Assistant Fire Chief Chris Cummins began his career with Columbia Fire Dept. in February of 1990.  He has held the positions of Firefighter (4 years), Driver/Engineer (14 years), Captain (7 years) and his present rank of Assistant Chief since 2015.  Chief Cummins served with the Army National Guard 1988 - 1994.  He is an EMT/IV and charter Honor Guard member.  He received his Associates Degree in Fire Science from Columbia Southern University in 2016.
